A skill is mastered when the SmartScore reaches 100, but the number of questions it takes to master a skill varies with every student. To continuously motivate students, IXL

Students will need to answer as many as 10 questions correctly in a row to achieve mastery. For most skills on IXL, students will have to complete a minimum of 28 questions to earn a SmartScore of 100. When a student achieves a score of 100 on IXL, you can feel confident that they have truly mastered that skill.

A score of 80 is considered proficiency and 90 is excellence. Both scores show a strong understanding of a skill and may be the perfect stopping point. Mastery (a score of 100) is an extra challenge!

Limited Engagement: One major drawback of IXL is its emphasis on repetitive practice rather than fostering deep understanding. The program often focuses on isolated skills without providing real-world context or opportunities for critical thinking.

The Student Quiz Results report will show the number of questions they got correct, their score for the quiz, and the amount of time they spent on it. Below that you can review individual questions they answered, which display their answer and the correct answer.

These levels range from 0-1300, with 0-50 representing pre-K, 50-100 kindergarten, and 1300 representing the end of 12th grade.

Diagnostic scores on IXL correspond to grade levels. A score of 500 indicates readiness to begin working on 5th grade skills. As soon as a student has finished diagnosing, you'll have immediate insights waiting for you in IXL Analytics.

Grade level guide: 100 = 1st grade, 200 = 2nd grade, 300 = 3rd grade, 400 - 4th grade, 500 = 5th grade, 600 = 6th grade, 700 = 7th grade, 800 = 8th grade, and 900 = 9th grade. By clicking on the IXL image above or the word IXL, students will be forwarded to the log in page.

Validity research shows that IXL's Diagnostic is an accurate measure of student achievement and a strong predictor of performance on standardized assessments including NWEA MAP, Star, FAST/B.E.S.T., PSSA, and over a dozen other state assessments.

When a student starts practicing a skill, the SmartScore starts at 0. As the student answers questions correctly, the SmartScore increases. If a question is answered incorrectly, the score decreases.

Can you get banned from IXL? ›

You agree that IXL, in its sole discretion, may suspend or terminate your password, account (or any part thereof) or use of the Service, for any reason, including, without limitation, for lack of use or if IXL believes that you have violated or acted inconsistently with the letter or spirit of this Agreement.

If the answer is wrong, IXL provides the right answer with a question- specific step-by-step explanation, so students receive immediate feedback and learn from their mistakes.

Obviously, IXL is just a tool and its usefulness varies with the user. For teachers (and schools) who are committed to using it to help students, it can be very effective. There is no advertising and there are a ton of resources to go along with implementation of any kind. Try it.

Try to answer 10–15 questions a week to keep your levels up to date. Explore all the skills recommended just for you, and select one to work on! Click on any recommendation to go to that skill! This indicates the skill is recommended for you by the Real-Time Diagnostic.

Click Dropdown and search for the skill you mean to reset smartscores on. Click Reset SmartScores. Here you can select All students, specific classes, or individual students. That's it.
